The Wing Tower was the winning entry by architect Richard Horden, quantity surveyor Clyde Malby (DL&E) and Peter Heppel in the 1992 Europe-wide competition to design a landmark for the City of Glasgow, Scotland.
Peter Heppel joined forces with Ian Liddell at Buro Happold for the realization of the project in 1998-1999.
The Tower rotates to face the wind. Detailed aerodynamic design using methods developed for Formula 1 race-cars greatly reduces the wind-induced vibration, thus permitting a lighter structure.
